I must express my ongoing outrage at the band the Liars. I've been
getting press releases about them and occasionally hear them on college radio.
Are they ignoramuses and do they surround themselves with more of the
same? Doesn't anyone in their midst know anything about music history
and trademark law? The name is a homophone for the much better Lyres,
the Boston band fronted by Jeff "Mono Man" Conolly who still have CDs
in print. Does the phrase "likelihood of confusion" mean anything
to them? If you're gonna semi-steal another band's name, make sure
it's a band that sucks, not one that's better than you. Maybe they
can change their name to Seven Merry Three.
